JR: Blow Up
The Renegade Artist Spreads His Work Around the Globe in Filmmaker Matt Black’s Latest Portrait
Young people stare up at the sky from a Hong Kong bridge and a meters-long nude odalisque reclines along the banks of the Seine in artist JR’s infamous posters, explored in a new short from NOWNESS regular Matt Black. The massive, iconic images can be found hand-pasted to crumbling buildings, trains, garbage trucks and bridges, whimsically reclaiming the urban landscape. Now a TED Prize-winner, semi-aonymous JR grew up in the suburbs of Paris and began tagging and “exhibiting” on the streets as a teen. When he found a camera on the Metro, he started taking photographs. Now he’s shaking things up with a new system that allows everyone to print and post works in their own neighborhoods, all for free. “It’s true art. That’s why people want to participate,” says Black, who caught up with the self-described “photograffeur” as part of his Reflections series. Today JR, who views the city as “the biggest gallery in the world,” also shows in more traditional spaces, including Galerie Emmanuel Perrotin and the Centre Pompidou in Paris and the Los Angeles MoCA, collaborating with artists such as Jose Parlà and Takashi Murakami. “He’s creating this monster project,” reflects the director, “showing that we’re all human—all equal.”

Paperman
Introducing a groundbreaking technique that seamlessly merges
computer-generated and hand-drawn animation techniques, first-time
director John Kahrs takes the art of animation in a bold new direction
with the Oscar®-nominated short, "Paperman." Using a minimalist
black-and-white style, the short follows the story of a lonely young man
in mid-century New York City, whose destiny takes an unexpected turn
after a chance meeting with a beautiful woman on his morning commute.
Convinced the girl of his dreams is gone forever, he gets a second
chance when he spots her in a skyscraper window across the avenue from
his office. With only his heart, imagination and a stack of papers to
get her attention, his efforts are no match for what the fates have in
store for him. Created by a small, innovative team working at Walt
Disney Animation Studios, "Paperman" pushes the animation medium in an
exciting new direction.
Craft of Movement
Move, move, move… Movement represents so much. Born from the love of sport, our passion for it infuses everything we do. But for us, movement is not about speed, sweat and victory. It’s about subtlety, nuance and beauty. It’s capturing every detail in the dynamism of modern life. We call it the Craft of Movement.
For the Spring-Summer 2013 brand campaign we teamed up with NAM, a Tokyo based graphic/art collective founded by graphic designer Takayuki Nakazawa and photographer Hiroshi Manaka, to capture the Craft of Movement in modern day Japan. In just five days we rebuilt the bustling streets of Tokyo across three scenes. Using their trademark nylon gut, NAM suspended the props on the set, while the models stayed in continuous motion to imitate the fluidity of daily movement. For some extra help on set, we brought in art students from Musashino Art University and Tama Art University to get their hands dirty. A set of wheels from our collaboration partners at Tokyo Bike, a Japanese “stop” sign and the classic cherry blossom tree infused the campaign with our Japanese heritage and twists of modern day Nippon.

The Knife - Full Of Fire
This April The Knife release their first studio album since Silent Shout seven years ago.
"The film 'Full of Fire' started to grow as an embryo in the song´s lines 'Who looks after my story'. Who takes care of our stories when the big history, written by straight rich white men, erase the complexity of human´s lives, desires and conditions? The film 'Full of Fire' consists of a network of fates, fears, cravings, longings, losses, and promises. Fates that at first sight seem isolated from each other, but if we pay attention, we can see that everything essentially moves into each other. Our lives are intertwined and our eyes on each other, our sounds and smells, mean something. Our actions create reality, we create each other. We are never faceless, not even in the most grey anonymous streets of the city. We will never stop being responsible, being extensions, of one another. We will never stop longing for each other, and for something else." - Marit Östberg
Marit Östberg is a filmmaker and visual artist, based in Stockholm and Berlin. Her works are often focused on images of queer bodies and sexualities. She sees her work in a wider context of feminist fights and histories and her visual world has been described as uncompromising. Uncompromisingly current. Uncompromisingly sexy. Uncompromisingly political.
50 Years of James Bond: The Movie
Approximately five minutes from each of the 22 Eon produced James Bond films have been cut together, in order and in sequence, beginning with the first five minutes of DR. NO (1962) followed by minutes 5-10 of FROM RUSSIA WITH LOVE (1963), minutes 10-15 of GOLDFINGER (1964), minutes 15-20 of THUNDERBALL (1965), continuing on through each of the remaining 18 Bond features (accounting for variables in each title's running time) culminating with the final five minutes of 2008's QUANTUM OF SOLACE.
This fresh look at the "James Bond Formula" provides a new exploration of the evolution of the series into a filmmaking genre uniquely its own. With few exceptions, each title's transition into the picture that follows it is nearly seamless, creating a viewing experience that at first might serve to remind us "if you've seen one Bond film, you've seen them all," but looking more closely it is in fact an endearing homage to a character who single-handedly shaped modern cinema's action/adventure formula and who continues to leave an indelible mark on generations worldwide.

Meet Me in Big Sur
Have you ever wanted to visit Big Sur? Yes or no, take
my advice and GO! Call in sick or do whatever you need to do and go; you
will not be sorry. I have been dreaming of exploring Big Sur for years
now and finally did it! My wife and I packed our car and drove with no
plans other than to end up in Big Sur. Driving along the Pacific Coast
Highway is an incredible experience and being able to really take our
time and explore was easily the best start to a new year I've ever had.
Trying to bring the Spirit of California's central coast into this
film has been difficult. I've tried my best, but pictures just can't do
it justice. No camera can perfectly capture the raw power and beauty of
the Pacific Ocean or the feeling of standing near the ledge of a high
cliff while the sun sets.

HOOD BY AIR - Matthew Williams / Shayne Oliver / A$AP Rocky
SHOWstudio is proud to release HOOD BY AIR, a new film by Matthew
Williams that shows off the latest looks from the label. Hood by Air
founder and designer Shayne Oliver's Spring/Summer 2013 collection
confidently challenges the conventions of menswear by incorporating
unique styling choices from Tom Guinness. These include crop tops, kilts
and accentuated torsos, whilst maintaining a dropped waist and
oversized component typically prevalent in American streetwear. These
aesthetic choices have been expressively communicated by Williams
through a raw, juxtaposed video composition. Visuals of blasting machine
guns and transitioning expressions of anger and joy encourage the
viewer to question the familiar intersections between war, sports, guns
and clothing in popular culture. See Hood by Air's collection in this
exclusive film now!

Ordinary Weirdos
What is this?
OrdinaryWeirdos is a revolutionary new website offering groundbreaking entertainment that combines people watching with digital art. Through the use of cinematography, motion graphics, humor, and considerable amounts of creativity, we hope to provide a digital experience that will make you laugh, cry, look away in disgust, as well as put a smile on your face.
What exactly is an “Ordinary Weirdo”?
We are all Ordinary Weirdos when you come right down to it. Being weird or ordinary are not bad things at all. The name “Ordinary Weirdos” itself can be thought of as an oxymoron. There is nothing ordinary per se about a weirdo, but there are plenty of ordinarily weird people out there. We are all unique and weird.
Who are you guys?
We are a team of cinematographers, artists, and creative individuals seeking to bring a new type of entertainment to the world. Original idea by Brant Walker.
What if I appear in a video, and I want it taken down?
While OrdinaryWeirdos does not take down or remove any videos, we will consider blurring out your face from a video.
How do I get my face blurred out?
Please email all blur-out requests to blurmeout(at)ordinaryweirdos.com, and we will consider blurring your face out. We will look at each request on a per- case basis. Make sure you give us a good explanation as to which video you appear in, why you would like your face blurred out, an included screenshot of yourself in the video, AND INCLUDE A SEPARATE PICTURE OF YOURSELF AS AN ATTACHMENT so we can verify/identify you are the person you say you are.
Are you making money off of this?
We are not making any money off this. In order to keep this legal, we are not allowed to use any of this content for commercial purposes. That means there will be no books, shirts, DVDs, etc… That also means you will not see a video of yourself popping up for sale on other websites around the internet. It is not our intent to profit from other people’s misfortunes. However, if you support our work, we encourage you to make a donation so we can continue to bring you a high level of entertainment. All donations will be used to fund equipment, hosting, bandwidth, travel, and other expenses used to make these videos. We are a not- for- profit startup creating art for enjoyment, at no cost to anyone around the world.

Legendary Italian Design
Launched in 1930 by Battista "Pinin" Farina, the Italian car design firm Pininfarina is now run by the founder's grandson Paolo Pininfarina. The company has partnered with all the big hitters over the years including Ferrari and Rolls-Royce and since 1986 Pininfarina Extra, headed up by Paolo Trevisan, has widened the Group's design scope to reach anything from the Eurostar to Lavazza coffee machines. Often collaborating with other heritage brands such as Scotch whisky label Chivas, much importance is placed on striking a balance between history and innovation. Visiting the HQ in Cambiano, Italy, we interview Pininfarina and Trevisan to discover why they see problems as opportunities and how this ethos has spurred their success despite Europe's current economic climate.
