Alec Friedman Closet Interview

Keinemusik x Uslu Airlines - KMC Kamouflage

There’s a new addition to Uslu Airline’s product family. The name: ‘KMC - Kamouflage’. The idea: as continuation of Uslu’s DJ-line, the project came to life in cooperation with Berlin based Keinemusik Crew – a DJ-collective featuring producers like Adam Port, Rampa, &ME and David Mayer. Likewise following Uslu-tradition, the farbcode matches with the abbreviation of an airport, in this very case representing Saudi Arabia’s military airbase King Khalid Military City. The colour: a matt camouflage-tone preparing for all the undercover action one might come across within the urban jungle. Actually it is the common 'NATO-Olive', the colour of the German forces outdoor apparel. The effects: not less than spectacular. The tone’s core being pure, covered understatement, its impact is simply disarming.
To celebrate the release with an appropriate bang, there will be a limited edition of Keinemusik-gear on offer. Tees and totebags - prepared with a sample of KMC and riddled with bullets.

Tom Ford OWN Visionaires

After revealing a series of trailer clips, OWN's full-length footage highlighting world-renowned fashion designer and film director Tom Ford is now available. The documentary brings to light Ford's every day happenings, as to let you into the otherwise closed quarters of his rather particular lifestyle. While most people think of the Texas native in regards to his overwhelming impact on the fashion industry, there is much more than meets the eye with the well-versed creative. He is also a well-respected Oscar nominated film director whose talents expand far beyond simply building an unmistakable fashion empire. View the entire piece above to gain further insight into the highly intriguing man that is Tom Ford.

Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has To Travel

Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has To Travel is an intimate portrait and a vibrant celebration of one of the most influential women of the 20th century, an enduring icon whose influence changed the face of fashion, beauty, art, publishing and culture forever. During her fifty year reign as the "Empress of Fashion," she launched Twiggy, advised Jackie O and coined some of fashion's most eloquent proverbs such as "the bikini is the biggest thing since the atom bomb." She was the fashion editor of HARPER'S BAZAAR where she worked for 25 years before becoming editor in chief of VOGUE followed by a remarkable stint at the Met's Costume Institute where she helped popularize its historical collections.

It will be out in theaters in NY and LA on September 21st, 2012.

Sport doesn't care where you're from, if you're a man or a woman, tall, thin, big or short. Sport doesn't care how you got here, how much money you make, what you believe in or not. It doesn't care if you have two legs, one leg or wheels. Sport only cares that you're here to take part and give your all to win.

Herb Ritts L.A. Style

Herb Ritts L.A. Style documentary provides an intimate look into the life and times of Mr. Ritts via interviews with his subjects and collaborators. The stunning exhibit is currently on display at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles through September 2, 2012.

Herb Ritts (1952-2002) fashioned himself into one of the top photographers to emerge from the 1980s. Ritts' aesthetic incorporated facets of life in and around Los Angeles. He often made use of the bright California sunlight to produce bold contrasts, and his preference for outdoor locations such as the desert and the beach helped to separate his work from that of his New York-based peers.

Free Pussy Riot, Free Russia

Facing 2 years in jail for singing a song criticizing President Putin in a church, a member of Pussy Riot gestured to the court and said in her show-trial's closing statements, "Despite the fact that we are physically here, we are freer than everyone sitting across from us ... We can say anything we want..."

Russia is steadily slipping into the grip of a new autocracy -- clamping down on public protest, allegedly rigging elections, intimidating media, banning gay rights parades for 100 years, and even beating critics like chess master Garry Kasparov. But many Russian citizens remain defiant, and Pussy Riot's eloquent bravery has galvanized the world’s solidarity. Now, our best chance to prove to Putin there is a price to pay for this repression lies with Europe.

The European Parliament is calling for an assets freeze and travel ban on Putin’s powerful inner circle who are accused of multiple crimes. Our community is spread across every corner of the world -- if we can push the Europeans to act, it will not only hit Putin's circle hard, as many bank and have homes in Europe, but also counter his anti-Western propaganda, showing him that the whole world is willing to stand up for a free Russia. Water Light Graffiti by Antonin Fourneau, created in the Digitalarti Artlab

The "Water Light Graffiti" is a surface made of thousands of LED illuminated by the contact of water. You can use a paintbrush, a water atomizer, your fingers or anything damp to sketch a brightness message or just to draw. Water Light Graffiti is a wall for ephemeral messages in the urban space without deterioration. A wall to communicate and share magically in the city.

The Gruen Effect. Victor Gruen and the Shopping Mall

Victor Gruen was maybe the most influential architect of the twentieth century: He is regarded as the father of the shopping mall. How fundamentally his concept would change the world was something that not even this immigrant from Vienna, who was noted for thinking big, could have foreseen. In the nineteen fifties, Gruen built large-scale "shopping towns" in the suburban sprawl of the United States. Based on the model of European city centers they were not only to facilitate shopping but also to strengthen social ties in the isolated suburbia with a mix of commercial and social spaces. However, in the context of an increasingly consumption- and speculation-driven economy the polyfunctional shopping center turned into a gigantic sales machine, which had a formative impact on the development of cities all around the globe. Thus, in architecture, the Gruen Effect describes the maelstrom introduced by seductively designed sales spaces that makes us give up purposeful shopping and get lost in the shopping experience. Since the principles of the shopping mall have little by little been transferred to downtown areas, today this phenomenon produces the city as the place of commercialism, the staging of lifestyle, distinction and event; it outlines the creation of a type of downtown, which serves the gods of consumer culture and defines consumption as the prime principle of urban planning.

Keanu Reeves Talks Digital Revolution and the Future of Filmmaking with Girls' Lena Dunham

Hollywood star Keanu Reeves sits down with acclaimed Girls writer and director Lena Dunham to discuss the subtly surreal sight of babies watching Nickelodeon on iPads in their strollers and how digital is changing film in this excerpt from Chris Kenneally’s documentary Side by Side. Deconstructing the game-changing impact digital storytelling has had on the film industry, Side by Side features Reeves conducting in-depth interviews with an awe-inspiring cast of industry heavyweights including David Lynch, George Lucas, James Cameron, David Fincher, Christopher Nolan, Martin Scorsese and Steven Soderbergh. Meeting during post-production of their last film together Henry’s Crime, Kenneally and Reeves wanted to explore the transformation of traditional filmmaking methods and how digital technology had revolutionized their industry. “It’s a very exciting time for cinema,” says Kenneally. “You don’t have to live in a city, with a lab, or a have a big budget to make your movie.” Creator and star of HBO’s latest critically acclaimed and Emmy-nominated comedy-drama Girls, Dunham first sprang to attention with her SXSW award-winning directorial debut Tiny Furniture. Having digital tools at their disposal has empowered a new generation of young directors such as Dunham, notes Kenneally: “Lena is a really talented young storyteller and a great example of what’s possible.”

Keanu Reeves and Hollywood Eccentric Greta Gerwig Talk Authenticity in the Digital Movie Age

Mumblecore leading lady and indie cinema starlet Greta Gerwig confronts the 21st-century dilemma of what to watch from an ever-growing Netflix queue in the second excerpt from Keanu Reeves’ documentary, Side by Side. Directed by Chris Kenneally and produced by Reeves, Side by Side explores the effects of digital technology on the production and consumption of film through a series of interviews with an all-star list of contributors including David Lynch, George Lucas, James Cameron, Christopher Nolan and Martin Scorsese. “Now you can watch almost any movie ever made,” observes Kenneally of the new digital landscape. “You have access to movies you never would have been able to see before. It’s an amazing time to create and consume cinema.” Breaking through with performances in micro-budget indie hits such as Hannah Takes the Stairs and Nights and Weekends, Gerwig received critical acclaim after starring in Greenberg opposite Ben Stiller and recently appeared in Woody Allen’s latest, To Rome With Love. “Greta is an exciting young actress who has worked in both film and digital," Kenneally notes. "She has great, unique insights."

Levi's® Go Forth 2012

This is a pair of Levi's®,

buttons and rivets and pockets and cuffs,
and the thread that holds it together.
When the road gets rough and the sky gets jumpy and the stars start falling
on top of your head and the waves start breaking against your legs;
It's the thread in your seams that's tied to your dreams.
It's the sole in your feet that keep the beat;
You're gonna be great, you're gonna be great, you're gonna be great;
You're gonna find the cure, you're gonna be famous, you're gonna be shameless.
Spittin' seeds in the wind, tap dancing with your shoe laces pinned,
to the back of a bus at the end of the road,
at the bottom of the ninth, with a crown on your head
You're a queen, you're a king, you're the solo act in a sold out show at a six story stadium, and you're proud, you're a hero! You got a hero's grip. Swingin' by a single stitch. You follow your heart, follow the leader, you're the leader;
Are you joking, are you breaking, are you shaking? You're the next living leader of the world. You're a kid. Holding onto the thread. That holds it together.
