Sage Vaughn - The Interpreter
Sage Vaughn has been a painter for years. However, he only recently dared to identify himself as an artist. Vaughn's paintings feature bright crisp swarms of butterflies, children dressed in costume, and bored policemen in the seemingly unnatural landscapes of city life. His work explores the contrast and the overlap between the natural and human-made.
Sage Vaughn is one of the artists chosen by Mike D to be part of the 17-day festival TRANSMISSION LA: Av Club

Tom Dixon’s Design Talks
Filmed in front of an impressive 1968 Toti submarine by NOWNESS regulars Carlo Lavagna and Roberto De Paolis, industrial design guru Tom Dixon explores the relationship between nationality and creativity with young design stars Lee Broom, La Chance and Noé Duchaufour Lawrance at the world’s largest furniture fair. Now in its 51st year, Salone del Mobile previews the most innovative products fresh from the workshops of the design world. For this latest edition, French lighting and furniture duo Jean-Baptiste Souletie and Louise Breguet, AKA La Chance, curated a 16-designer-strong collection, which included interior architect Lawrance’s innovative Borghese sofa. For his Milan debut, London-based Broom recreated an English boozer in his Public House installation, complete with period paneling. Not to be outdone, Dixon produced a five-building design hub in the National Museum of Science and Technology, aptly named MOST. “There is already a huge shift in Salone from a conventional business-to-business furniture fair into a global marketing carnival,” explains Dixon. Bringing emerging designers together in an interactive and innovative environment, Dixon’s space featured refreshments provided by Yves Behar-designed Soda Streams and a pop up restaurant from Dock Kitchen's Stevie Parle. “MOST came from my love of museums and the dissatisfaction with the types of spaces that we were being offered,” says Dixon. “I felt it was time to take matters into my own hands.”

Ibiza Lights II
Using the new generation of cameras I've Been Able to do this timelapse, a video made up of long-exposure pictures, joined together to show the movement of stars, clouds, shadows, all making a real acceleration of what happens in Many hours , to see Them in seconds. 99.9% of the video it s been done at night time, With The help of LED lamps, to illuminate rocks, trees etc ... When There Was no moon, I used Exposures from 30 to 40 seconds, Taking About 2:30 hours to do a sequence, But It's better When you see the stars and constellations. I have also used the moonlight to do shorter exposures because the moonlight can be quite bright, depending on which phase is on. Some of the shots look like they have been done during the day. When you shot under the moonlight the exposure can be from 15 to 8 seconds and can take up to 1.15 hours, so I could shot the moviment of the shadow over the rocks, the moviment of the clouds during the night … The pictures were all made With A Canon 5D Mark II and Canon Used lenses 16-35mm, Canon 24-70mm, Canon 24mm, Most Of Them Were Made at F/2.8, ISO 1600, 3200, 6400. All the pictures are real, it looks like They Are too many stars. This is Because the human eye can not catch much light at night. The camera movement Has Been made by two types of sliders, the "Dynamic Perception" and the "Pocket Slider" where the camera moves A Few millimeters photo by photo, Creating this movement. This is all controlled by a small computer the MX2 Arduino Controller. Most of These Have Been Made with shots the company of my friend Alejandro Iborra, sharing the Same hobby, Knowing That going out at night and spend long hours in very remote places and apologetic to get Into it, is some kind of risky business, Sometimes I Had to go out on my own and i got some fright. And of course thanks to my wife and Alejandro Iborra's Wife for Letting us enjoy this hobby. All pictures are made in the island of Ibiza, this is my birth place, a wonderful place to take pictures in their most beautiful spots, caves, beaches, mountains etc ... Where You can discover a different side of Ibiza than most people have never seen .

Henrik Vibskov exhibition / interview
18th-century English painter Thomas Gainsborough once famously said of his competitor Joshua Reynolds, “Damn him, how various he is!” 21st-century designer Henrik Vibskov could provoke similar bursts of envy among his own peers. While the multi-talented Dane is best known for his eponymous fashion label, he is also a fine artist and a musician: he is the drummer of electronic band Trentemøller and exhibits worldwide in museums and galleries.
A 2001 graduate of London’s renowned Central Saint Martins, Vibskov takes an individual approach when it comes to art. What initially appears childlike, spontaneous and carefree is in fact thoroughly elaborated. Vibskov expects his viewers to be jaded, self-aware and savvy, and his artworks question their prevailing assumptions.
‘Panda People,’ his 2009 work, shows the endangered animal as a cuddly creature, but it could also serve as a warning against their extinction, and possibly – as the title intimates – the end of mankind itself. Vibskov’s drawings and installations reveal mesmerizing universes and sets of logic. Going beyond postmodernism, they could even be classified as metamodernism.
Whereas the number 68 of Ruttkowski;68 reminds of the year of birth of the gallery’s passed on namesake Sven Ruttkowksi, 72 pays tribute to Vibskov’s year of birth.
Not to forget the importance of the year 2012: Henrik Vibskov celebrates the first decade of his career. Hence, Ruttkowski68 – Vibskovski;72 inheres a retrospective character.

The 100 Most Influential People in the World
Every year, Time releases a list of the "100 most influential people in the world" — a list which inevitably contains a fair number of people who, while talented and noteworthy and all that, are probably not quite influential enough for such a list. We understand that a list of world leaders and bankers and philanthropists would not be the biggest newsstand draw, and that Time generally prefers to sell magazines. Nevertheless, if you're going to call it the "100 most influential people in the world" — and not, say, "100 people who had a really interesting year last year" — then you should maybe, you know, make it a list of extremely influential people. Not, for example, these people, who we've ranked in order of their lack of influence.

Fiat 500 by Gucci
Director Chris Sweeney Celebrates the Italian Fashion House’s New Twist on an Automotive Icon
High heels, handbags and perfume bottles are transformed into a steering wheel, car exhaust and wheel rims by a vacuum-forming machine in director Chris Sweeney’s short for the new Fiat 500 by Gucci. Originally launched in 1957, the latest iteration of the doe-eyed classic has been specially customized by Gucci’s Creative Director Frida Giannini, who enhanced the Fiat 500’s distinguishing traits and added the fashion house’s signature detailing via a signature red-green web down the side and the unmistakable “Guccissima” leather print on the seats. Invited alongside visionaries such as Italian Vogue's Franco Sozzani and Purple’s Olivier Zahm to dream up a film celebrating the partnership between the Italian automaker and fashion house, Sweeney created a giant plastic model kit of the Fiat 500 by Gucci like the ones he used to make as a kid. “It’s an extreme, austere fashion version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory or Wallace and Gromit, which are very playful, silly, colorful and magic,” explains Sweeney of his film. An established music video director who has made shorts for the likes of Foals, Friendly Fires and original Pop Idol Will Young, the London-based Sweeney’s graphic rhythms have been sought by luxury brand YSL, hairstyling prodigy Charlie Le Mindu and fashion titles Vogue and i-D. “The Fiat 500 is a car that everyone holds close to their hearts,” says Sweeney. “It’s an icon of design.”

Cai Guo-Qiang: Sky Ladder
The Incendiary Chinese Artist Unveils His Spellbinding Practice of Painting with Fireworks
Pyrotechnic savant Cai Guo-Qiang unpacks the metaphysical questions at the heart of his explosive oeuvre for a new film series by fine art visual search engine Art.sy. Director Antony Crook traveled to Los Angeles with his wife, Art.sy Producer and Editor Marina Cashdan, to shadow the Chinese artist as he readied a site-specific installation for his new show at The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA. “He’s got this dynamic between an intense spirituality and a real childlike nature,” says Cashdan. “Explosions really do fascinate and excite him. There’s this tension between serenity and chaos—that’s what drives him.” Beyond the combustive opening spectacle “Mystery Circle,” which will feature a sea of mini rockets, 100 “UFO” spinners and its very own “alien” onlooker, the Sky Ladder exhibition’s highlights include the mammoth 108-foot-wide “Childhood Spaceship” drawing detailing the artist’s extraterrestrial fascinations. The show marks the West Coast solo debut for New York-based Guo-Qiang, who has shown at institutions including the Guggenheim and Tate Modern, served as curator for China’s 2005 Venice Biennale pavilion, and masterminded the special effects direction for the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing.

The New York Times
They've won countless awards for their graphic work, but now it's time to dive behind what makes America's most venerated general interest newspaper stand a world apart. Graphics director Steve Duenes and his team of 30-some journalists at The New York Times turn around images at a breakneck daily, if not an hourly, pace, sorting and sifting through reportage to provide the clearest visualization of data possible.
How the information is manifested – through diagrams, charts, or interactive media – is up to them, though we've grown to trust their authority on all stories, from the sensitive (9/11) to the scientific (a perfect triple axel at the Olympics). In Gestalten.tv's latest podcast, we speak with Duenes and graphics editor Archie Tse on location in their New York headquarters to learn a few tricks of the trade.
