2 World Trade Center in New York City by BIG

"The completion of the World Trade Center will restore the majestic skyline of Manhattan and unite the streetscapes of TriBeCa with the towers Downtown. To complete this urban reunification we propose a tower that will feel equally at home in TriBeCa and the World Trade Center. From TriBeCa, the home of lofts and roof gardens, it will appear like a vertical village of singular buildings stacked on top of each other to create parks and plazas in the sky. From the World Trade Center, the individual towers will appear unified, completing the colonnade of towers framing the 9/11 Memorial. Horizontal meets vertical. Diversity becomes unity.” - Bjarke Ingels, Founding Partner, BIG.

Darwinian Brush Mirror

Daniel Rozin - Darwinian Brush Mirror, 2012
video camera, custom software, computer, 46" screen dimensions variable, horizontal or vertical

Every few seconds, the "Darwinian Brush Mirror" visually engages a new evolutionary cycle, and builds pictures from live camera input and virtual brushstroke patterns. The basis of the software in this series is Darwin's theory of random mutations followed by natural selection as the basis of evolution.

Darwinian Brush Mirror is the second a series of Darwinian Software Mirrors by Daniel Rozin. In these pieces programmed “evolutionary pressure” pushes the artworks to resemble the viewer's mirrored image. Engaging the viewer with interactive response, each work varies the formal properties of line, luminosity, and tempo, as screen-based pictures are built improvisationally.
